William "Bill" Francis Walton, Sr.

William F. Walton Sr., affectionately known as "Coach," passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, in Stuart, FL, at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with complications after open-heart surgery. Born on October 19, 1941, in New York City, Bill lived a life filled with love, integrity, compassion, and dedication—qualities that left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate to know him.

Bill was the beloved son of Jane and Joseph Walton. He is survived by Marilyn, his devoted wife of 62 years, his son Bill Jr., daughter-in-law Amy, and cherished granddaughter Juliet, whom he adored with all his heart. Known to Juliet as "Grampy," Bill's love for her was unmatched, taking pride in her accomplishments as she prepared to embark on her college journey.

In 1961, Bill honorably completed his service in the United States Marine Corps and began his lifelong partnership with Marilyn, whom he married shortly thereafter. Together, they settled in Ridgefield, CT, where Bill dedicated himself to building a family and becoming a valued member of his community. Their enduring love and commitment serve as an inspiration to all who knew them.

Bill's academic journey included earning a degree in Speech and Communications from the University of Bridgeport and a master’s in Fine Arts from Smith College. These achievements laid the foundation for his impactful career as an educator. As a college professor and Theater Arts Chair at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU), Bill fostered creativity and possibility in his students, not only teaching them the art of acting but empowering them to envision successful futures. His innovative approach included the use of Broadway professionals for productions and immersive experiences in the performing arts, allowing his students to learn and grow in profound ways.

Additionally, Bill's passion for coaching baseball and football further underscored his dedication to helping young people grow not just as athletes but as confident, capable individuals. With over 35 years of coaching at the high school and college levels—including assisting the Western Connecticut baseball team—Bill instilled life lessons that extended far beyond the field. He taught his players to persevere, work hard, and never quit, values he embodied throughout his own life.

"Coach" was a beacon of positivity and optimism, always ready with his trademark sense of humor and unwavering encouragement. He had an extraordinary gift for helping others recognize their own potential, striving to make a difference in the lives of all who crossed his path—students, players, colleagues, friends, and family alike.

Bill's incredible journey was defined by his steadfast faith in God and a commitment to living a life of meaning and purpose. Though his passing leaves a void in our hearts, his legacy of love, wisdom, and compassion will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched.

Two celebrations of life will be held in Bill's honor:

1 - June 20, 2025 - 10:15 am EST at Mariner Sands Chapel

6500 SE Congressional Way, Stuart, FL 34997

2 - June 29, 2025 - 3:00-5:00 pm EST at Trenton Country Club

     201 Sullivan Way, W. Trenton, NJ 08628

Bill would want to be remembered not for how his life ended but for the vibrant way in which he lived it—for his profound impact on others and his unyielding belief in the power of community, family, and faith. He will truly be missed, but his light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
