Walter Max Hollmann

(Walter) Max Hollmann was born on April 1, 1943, in Manhattan, New York. His parents were Max and Gertrude Hollmann, from Germany. In his early years, Max played the violin and developed a love for classical music and opera. At times, he would wave his arms like a conductor and hum along while listening to his music (One arm while driving). His iPod was packed with music and e-books.

Max enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 4, 1961, and was honourably discharged on August 16, 1965. He was recommended for reenlistment and is a veteran. Max was involved in the President's Honour Guard for two years. He served in the burial of President Kennedy, President Hoover, General MacArthur, and others.

Academically, Max achieved both a Master's Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. With determination, he enjoyed an illustrious and varied career. There are many stories he shared about his experiences working as a Certified Fraud Investigator. Max taught and lectured in his field as an Associate Professor. He was even a Deputy Sheriff for a short while.

Max had an artistic side and loved bright colours. He collected limited edition prints, blown glass, ceramics, and pottery from art shows. He proudly displayed the art in his home. His artistic talents spilled over into his love of fishing. When taking his boat out, Max brought fishing rods that he made himself, decorating them with different coloured lines. He turned his walking stick into an art piece, using coloured thread to mimic flags from favourite destinations. Many people stopped to admire his walking stick, and he was very proud of it.

He later collected guns and enjoyed practicing at the shooting range. He took great pride in maintaining his firearms. Max was a lifelong pipe smoker who collected and maintained his trove of pipes.

Max’s happiest years were spent with his beloved wife, Pauline. He married Pauline Vandenberg on August 12, 1972. They remained married until she passed away on October 6, 2014. They shared a love of literature, travelling the world together for both business and pleasure. They enjoyed entertaining friends and associates at their home. He dearly missed Pauline when she passed away, and now he can be reunited with her.

Those who knew and loved Max would describe him as an intelligent, loyal, loving, artistic, fiercely determined, and accomplished man, husband, son, and stepson. He held his loved ones close to his heart and was generous to various charities and friends in need. Max enjoyed a long and exciting life, filled with adventures, and left many with fond memories to cherish and will be missed.
