Roy R. Vandekerckhove, age 94, of Palm City, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Roy was the beloved husband of the late Micheline, for 57 years. Cherished father of Frank (Linda), Michelle, Danielle (George), and Dennis. Grandfather and great-grandfather to many loved ones.
Roy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before becoming a docent at Detroit's Dossin Great Lakes Museum and pinch-hitting at the Detroit Historical Museum for more than three decades. Among his pastimes were showing off his tap dancing skills, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, rooting for the Detroit Tigers, and telling dad jokes - often forgetting the punchlines!
Even as his illness progressed, Roy never lost his upbeat demeanor, nor his appetite. Roy's deep faith, gentleness, and generous spirit touched all those who knew him. He will forever lovingly remain in the hearts of family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A Burial will take place on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 11:00 am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 10941 Southern Blvd, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411 with full U.S. Army Honors.
In lieu of flowers in loving memory of Roy please consider donating to Father Solanus Casey Center, St. Bonaventure Capuchin Monastery, 1780 Mt. Elliott Street, Detroit, Michigan, 48207-3496
