Michelle Jane DelPonti

Michelle Jane DelPonti, 88, of Stuart, FL was called to our Lord on Friday, May 30, 2025. She was at her residence, surrounded by her caring family members. Michelle was born on July 19, 1936, in Rockville Center, NY and was the daughter of James and Florence Cullen of Great Neck and Point Lookout, NY. James Cullen was the President of King Kullen Groceries, a Long Island chain of supermarket stores, America’s first supermarket.

Michelle graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, NY, then attended Chesnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Afterwards, Michelle worked as an Airline Stewardess for American Airlines for several years, until her marriage to John D. DelPonti on June 25, 1960, at St. Aloysius Church in Great Neck. During her marriage, Michelle was active as a tennis player and a bridge player and instructor. For her competitive bridge play, she earned the honor of becoming a LifeMaster in the ACBL. She started to learn golf, but a stroke in 2013 kept her from continuing. Michelle was the oldest of 9 siblings, 4 of whom have predeceased her.

Michelle is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, John DelPonti of Stuart, FL and their 5 children and 1 foster daughter. Debra Finn, of Kennebunk, ME., John D. DelPonti, Jr. and his fiancée Margaret Savoia of Palm Beach, FL., Thomas C. DelPonti and his wife Mary Madeline of Palos Verdes Estates, CA., Michael P. DelPonti, of Stuart, FL., and Kelly D. Poovey and her husband Wade Poovey of McAdenville, NC and foster daughter Mary Ellen Lukas and her husband David Lukas of Old Forge, PA. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren Caitlin, Conor, Cullen, Sean, Lacey, Corbin, Kellan, Dustin, Delaney, Thomas, Jr., Trudy, Cullen and foster grandchildren Jesse, Joelle and Chloe and her 15 great-grandchildren. Michelle is also survived by her brother James A. Cullen and his wife Linda of East Moriches, NY., Thomas Cullen, and wife Kathy of Bellport, NY., Brian Cullen and his wife Mary Jane of Brookhaven, NY and her twin sister who passed away on June 2, 2025, just days after Michelle, Mary Ann Miller of Stuart, FL. 

A Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Stuart Chapel of Martin Funeral Home, 961 S. Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL with an evening prayer vigil at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Christopher Catholic Church with Father Aiden Hynes as officiant, 12001 S. Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, FL., followed by a Burial at All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach, FL.
