Marc A. Cianca

The Honorable Marc A. Cianca went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2024.

Marc was born in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania on October 3, 1937. He was raised in Tampa, Florida and attended Hillsborough High School. Marc loved playing football and excelled at it. While at Hillsborough High, he played center and even faced off against Burt Reynolds!

After High School, Marc joined the Navy where he served our country proudly. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, he attended the University of South Florida and was part of the first graduating class in 1963. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. At that time, Marc worked at the City of Tampa Fire Department. It is also during that time that he met the love of his life, Inez, and her three children, and the two were soon married.

Marc worked for several years as an Insurance Claims Adjuster and, in 1967, attended the University of Florida College of Law. Then, he and Inez moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he worked for several years as Claims Counsel for Baldwin, Lyons. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Stuart where Marc became an Assistant State Attorney.

In 1976, Marc was elected as a County Court Judge and served until 1986 when he was elected to the Circuit Court. During his time as a Circuit Court Judge, he served as Chief Judge from 2001 until 2003. He also served as a Senior Judge until he retired in 2016 to care for his wife, Inez.

Marc had a passion for history and, oh, the stories he could tell! He loved staying active by working in the yard and taking long walks. In fact, you may have seen him during the many many miles he walked around town. He enjoyed football, basketball, and golf; spending time with family and friends; a nice steak; and a good cigar.

Marc was a proud member of the Martin County Literacy Council; President of the Board of Directors of The C.O.R.E. Program; a Member of the HRS Advisory Council on Alcohol, Drugs, & Mental Health; Member of the Board of Directors of the Treasure Coast Safety Council; Past President of Martin County's Camp Gideon; and a Member of the Civitans. He was also a Member of the American and Martin County Bar Associations as well as a fifty-four year Member of the Florida Bar.

Marc is survived by his brother, Paul Cianca; his wife's children, Brenda Sconyers (Rodney) and Richard Mull (Kathy); his granddaughters, Elizabeth Ellstrom (Ron), Amanda Szymanel (Brian), and Shanna Tuttle; and his grandsons, Derek Mull and Ian Mull. Marc was pre-deceased in death by his beloved wife, Inez; his parents, Basilio and Pasqualina Cianca; two sisters, Anna Hollinger and Angela Chipetta; and his wife's son, Allan Mull, and grandson, John Mull.

Marc's favorite bible verse was Micah 6:8, "He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?".

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Tropical Farms Baptist Church, 1555 S.W. Kanner Highway, Stuart.
