In loving memory of Mable Clair "Marci" Flanagan, 92, whose indomitable spirit was a beacon of joy and strength to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Born on February 5, 1933, in the quaint town of McKenzie, Tennessee, Marci radiated an obnoxiously happy disposition that endeared her to many throughout her journey in life. She left this world on August 15, 2025, in Stuart, Florida, but her legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the community will be felt for generations to come.
Marci navigated her life with passion and purpose, dedicating much of her career as an educator, primarily with the Polk County School District. She inspired countless students as a talented English teacher and as a librarian. Perhaps her most cherished role was as a Physical Education Coach for the Girls' High School Basketball team.
One of her most proudest moments was when she proudly played an undefeated basketball season at McKenzie High School—an accomplishment that remains a shining memory she always cherished.
A proud member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Halpatiokee Chapter, Marci was deeply involved in her community, fostering a spirit of civic duty among her peers. Her passion for physical well-being led her to become a Certified Tai Chi Instructor for 33 years, sharing the benefits of mind-body harmony with those lucky enough to join her classes.
Throughout her life, Marci shared an extraordinary love with her devoted husband, Billy Joe Flanagan, who mourns the loss of his partner of 72 years. Together, they were among the original members of the Polk County Teachers Credit Union, now known as the Mid Florida Credit Union, contributing to the foundation of an institution that has helped many navigate their financial journeys.
Marci’s life was a rich tapestry woven with threads of education, family, and community spirit, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. As we celebrate her life, we remember the warmth of her smile, the sound of her laughter, and the unwavering support she offered to her family and friends.
Marci is survived by sons Mike Flanagan, his wife Linda, Joe Flanagan, his wife Brenda; grandchildren Danielle Flanagan, Matthew Flanagan, Tyler Flanagan & Pam Kelly, Kathie and Mark Cochenour, Jason and Alexis Childs, Chris and Jennifer Flanagan; great grandchildren Mila Childs and Brooke Foust; great great grandchild Noah Foust.
