Lorraine Roepke Hodgson passed away peacefully at her home in Stuart, Florida, on January 29, 2026, surrounded by members of her loving family.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Jim; their four children, Lara (Thad) Solomon of Prospect, Kentucky; Jim Hodgson of Stuart, Florida; Alison (Mark) Frankenberger of Vero Beach, Florida, and Zach (Elizabeth) Hodgson of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren Erin (Lian), Connor, Graham, Anna, Anthony, Ava, and Preston; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Ann Roepke, her three brothers, Ed, Jim, and Bobby, and her sister-in-law, Pat.
Lorraine was born in New York City on the island of Manhattan on December 21, 1938. She graduated from Holy Cross Academy in 1958 and then from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in 1961. She began her career as a nurse in New York City and married Jim on February 4, 1968. She continued her nursing profession in different settings and locations as her husband’s Marine Corps career moved the family across the country and even overseas. No matter the location, Lorraine led by example and was always recognized as a dedicated, respected, caring, and professional, where many would often ask, “What would Lorraine do?” Most important of all, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, doting Nanny, and steadfast friend.
Lorraine believed time was not for saving. To her, time was meant for spending on togetherness in a game of cards, conversations over a cup of tea, and laughter around a dinner table. She was a connector of people, family and friends alike, through calls, visits, letters, and warm messages in greeting cards for every occasion, often with a “Nanny dollar” tucked inside. Lorraine was the family “glue,” keeping in touch with every cousin and in-law, no matter the distance. She made sure she provided her own family the same warm and welcoming environment she knew growing up. Her signature line was, “Love Always,” and that sentiment continues on through her family and all those she touched in life.
The family would like to give special appreciation to Lorraine’s doctors and nurses, Treasure Coast Hospice, and her very special friends (her Angels) who gave so much support and care.
A Catholic Mass for Lorraine will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at St. Christopher Church, located at 12001 SE Federal Highway in Hobe Sound, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Christian Brothers’ Foundation at 260 Wilmot Road, New Rochelle, NY, 10804. Please specify “Lorraine Hodgson / St Joseph’s Residence” on the memo line.
