Memorials:
Lloyd W. Hughes, Jr., Born February 1, 1941 to the late Blanche and Lloyd W. Hughes, Sr., has passed away peacefully under the loving care of Treasure Coast Hospice on his 80th Birthday, February 1, 2021.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Hughes whom he met while attending Greenville University, Greenville, IL., his daughter Mindy Hughes and sister Elaine Palmer. He was predeceased in death by his sister Patsy Hillard.
Lloyd was a resident of Southern Illinois until he was drafted into The United States Army in 1966. He proudly served and was trained as a Comm Center Specialist and as an Acting Drill Sergeant training the troops before they were sent to Vietnam. While serving in the military he was recognized as an outstanding soldier receiving several medals. Upon returning to Illinois from the service, Lloyd and a mutual friend started a chain of multiple restaurants called Chick-n-Quik and at the same time he was involved in the insurance business. He was quickly recruited into management where he was very successful and received many awards over his 38 years with Prudential. Lloyd was a people person, team leader, mentoring so many and as a good friend said, “Everyone who knew Lloyd was blessed with his friendship.”
After Lloyds retirement with Prudential in 1999 got involved in real estate. Those retirement years were also spent playing golf where he was a resident at Willoughby Golf Club. Another passion of Lloyds was boating on his Viking motor yacht where he earned his Captains License. Lloyd and Shirley as well as their close friends could be seen all around The Keys, up and down both coast of Florida.
We feel so blessed to have had Lloyd in our lives. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
