We are saddened to announce the passing of Leo E. Kane, 76, of Palm City, FL. on May 6, 2026.
Leo was born on August 28,1949, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Edward and Evelyn Kane. He grew up with his four siblings in Paterson and graduated from Don Bosco Technical High School. He went on to graduate from Ramapo College of New Jersey and then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Leo went on to build a successful career in communications, co-owning a company that served New York City and Tri-State hospitals and emergency services, including fire and police departments. More than the business itself, he cherished the relationships and trust he built with his customers and colleagues.
Leo and his wife, Darlene, spent most of their married life at High Crest Lake in West Milford, New Jersey, where they raised their children and enjoyed the friendship and support of those around them — and a little fishing too. In 2018, they moved to Pipers Landing in Palm City, Florida, where they were fortunate to build another circle of friends.
Leo enjoyed the company of others. There was always a quick-witted remark, a ready smile, and a joke to share. He was passionate about photography and music. He had a vast record collection that he enjoyed listening to and he liked to attend live music events whenever possible. Leo would always take pleasure in finding the time to be in his words, “a closet guitarist”, take a drive to nowhere and, somehow, that drive to nowhere would end up at the Hot Grill for a chili dog. Leo was also an avid golfer; He first discovered his love of golf while working as a caddie in his teens and later he and Darlene enjoyed destination golf with other couples. He unsuccessfully tried to pass that passion on to his children.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Darlene Kane, and his two amazing daughters, Gina Kane (Mike Alesic) of Florida and Leanne Kane-Pilapil (Gemar) of California; his beloved grandchildren, Alexander Leo, Ariana, and Jacob. He is also survived by his brothers, Tommy (Jill), Timothy, and Patrick and his sister, Maureen; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or a charity of your choice would have made him happy. (https://www.mskcc.org/locations/directory/memorial-hospital)
Leo will be interred at South Florida National Cemetery with Honors at a date to be determined.
