Kent Stuart Gore

Captain Kent Stuart Gore, 72, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on August 19, 2026, in Stuart, Florida. He was born on November 28, 1953, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Kent graduated from James Madison University in 1977 and earned his dental degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 1981, completing his prosthodontics residency at Bethesda Naval Hospital in 1992. He served for more than 35 years as a Navy prosthodontist and deployed to Iraq from 2005 to 2006. He earned the Fleet Marine Force qualification while serving alongside Marines and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Kent retired from military service in 2018 at the rank of Captain. 

Some of his happiest years were spent at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point. Kent was the kind of person who, once he made a close friend, made a friend for life. This was evident in friendships that began as early as elementary school in Virginia Beach and continued through his years in post-secondary education, private dental practice, and at each duty station throughout his military career. For as long as his family can remember, Kent said he loved what he did so much that it never felt like work. It was a rare gift that left a lasting impression on those closest to him.

Kent and his wife and best friend, Lisa, shared 50 years together and 49 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, and a shared love of travel, seeing much of the world side by side. As a Navy family, they enjoyed being stationed at Navy and Marine Corps bases across the United States and abroad in Naples, Italy. Kent was deeply proud to have been part of the United States Navy.

Kent had an unforgettable sense of humor and loved making the people around him laugh. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music and seemed to know the name, artist, and album of nearly every song he heard. He was an avid reader, loved a good political discussion, and was always curious and engaged with the world around him. He enjoyed Steely Dan, working on projects around the house, golf, skiing, surfing, brewing beer, and spending time with his family and friends.

Kent was remarkably tough and determined. Even during six years of treatment for colorectal cancer, he continued living life on his own terms, riding his bike up to 15 miles a day until the final few months of his life. Above all, Kent was fiercely devoted to the people he loved and lived by his simple philosophy: “I’m a giver, not a taker.”

He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; his children, Chris, Brent, and Courtney; his grandchildren, Cadence, Adalyn, and Harper; his granddogs, Harvey, Hopper, Nellie, and Capri; his daughters-in-law, Jeanette and Brooke; his son-in-law, Chase; his siblings, Kay and Keith; his brothers-in-law, Gary and Jeff; and his sisters-in-law, June and Pam.
