Judith M. Balfoort

Judith Mary (nèe Dorn) Balfoort, passed from this world to her heavenly home on Friday, January 19, 2024.

Judith was born in Holland Michigan, on May 29, 1940, to Harold and Evelyn Dorn. She graduated from Holland High School, attended Hope College and Grand Rapids Junior College where she acquired an LPN degree in nursing.

During a summer job at Parke Davis Pharmaceutical Judy met her future husband, Bob, where Judy’s Mother introduced them. Her intention was to continue to get an RN degree but decided in favor of an “Mrs.” Degree instead.

After the couple moved to Pompano Beach, FL in 1960, Judy worked in various capacities as a nurse in Broward County and completed her work career as the receptionist at the pharmacy office in North Ridge Hospital.

The job she most enjoyed (besides being a Mom) was office manager for Wayne Huizenga at Pompano Carting which eventually became Waste Management. This, in turn, led to lots of fun and loyalty to the Marlin, Panther, and Dolphin Sport Franchises.

Judy and Bob lived in one of the first houses built in Coconut Creek, FL, for 53 years where they raised two children, Todd & Sarah.

After the kids started their own lives, Judy and Bob were able to enjoy their many years of retirement and travel to places all over the world including Asia, Europe, and Africa. She loved to talk about climbing The Great Wall of China and rafting the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. They moved to Hobe Sound in 2014 to be closer to family and enjoy the many pleasant benefits of a Martin County lifestyle.

A line from a Poem written by her husband…

“…then one day by pure providence

she found herself in Hobe Sound.

New friends; new church; tennis, bocce and golf.

So peaceful; so beautiful; truly - Paradise Found!”

Judy is survived by her loving husband to whom she was married for 65 years, two children, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, a brother, as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews.

Her peaceful demeanor, unwavering love, constant affection, and infectious laugh will be forever missed by all of her family and friends.

Memorial donations in loving memory of Judith can be made to New Hope Community Church, 6400 NW 31st Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309; or Peace Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1628, Port Salerno, FL 34992.

A small graveside service will be held in Stuart, FL Wednesday, January 24, at Fern Hill Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am with a service at 12 noon at Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, 961 S. Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL.  Online condolences and expressions of sympathy can be made by visiting www.Martin-Funeral.com.
