John Charles Decker, Jr.

John Decker, Jr., beloved husband, father, family man, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, surrounded by love after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

John was a man who left an impression on everyone he met. He was known for his quick wit, great sense of humor, and ability to make people laugh, often with a joke delivered at just the right moment. He had a kind and generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Whether family, friends, neighbors, or even strangers, John was the person people could count on.

Born in 1960, and raised in N.J., John built a life grounded in hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family. He had a remarkable talent for working with his hands and took great pride in woodworking and home improvement projects. His craftsmanship could be seen in beautiful kitchen cabinetry and countless projects and renovations he created over the years. He loved building things, fixing things, and making life better for those around him.

In 2025, John and Lina fulfilled a dream of relocating to Stuart, Florida, to begin a new chapter together. Although his health challenges were already present, John approached their new home with the same passion, creativity, and determination that defined his life. He completed countless projects throughout the house, adding custom touches and transforming a newly built house into a warm and beautiful home. There are reminders everywhere of his skill, craftsmanship, and love. His hands and heart helped create the place where his family will forever feel his presence.

John also had a passion for adventure. He loved cars and appreciated their beauty, performance, and craftsmanship. He was an avid skydiver who embraced the thrill of freefall and lived life with a sense of excitement and fearlessness that inspired those around him.

Above all, John loved his family. He was a devoted husband and best friend of his wife and a proud father to his sons. His love for them was unwavering and evident in everything he did. He was the foundation of his family, offering strength, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.

John faced cancer with extraordinary courage. Through every setback, treatment, and challenge, he fought with determination, dignity, and grace. For three years, he battled a rare and relentless cancer while continuing to care for those he loved. He was a true warrior whose strength inspired everyone fortunate enough to witness his journey. Cancer may have taken his body, but it never took his spirit.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lina; his sons, Justin and Ryan; his mother, Rosalie; his sisters, Donna (Ken), Laura (David), Lisa, and Mary (Jim); as well as many cherished extended family members and countless friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering friendship.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that John’s legacy lives on through the memories he created, the projects he built, the lives he touched, and the love he shared so freely. We will forever cherish his laughter, his strength, his guidance, and the example he set for all of us.

John will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. “Cancer may have taken his body, but it never took his spirit. He remained a warrior until his very last breath.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St Jude Church,204 US-1, Tequesta, FL 33469 at 11:00 a.m with Father Gabriel officiating.  In addition, a celebration of John’s life will be planned for a later date in N.J.
