Joan Carol Lamont passed away on November 13 at the age of 92. Joan was a devoted and loving daughter, wife, mother, mother in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Joan was born in Elizabeth, NJ, the only child of Kenneth and Florence Martin. She graduated from Colby College in 1952, where she met her husband, Alton (Al) Lamont and made many lifelong friends. Joan and Al married in 1955, and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past April.
After college, Joan worked at the First National City Bank in New York City, a job she loved and fondly remembered her entire life.
Al and Joan moved to Waltham, Massachusetts in 1955, where they started a family. Gary was born in 1956. They moved to Wayland, MA, where Jeffrey was born in 1958. In addition to being a devoted mother, Joan was a talented athlete who enjoyed tennis, golf, skiing and bowling with her many friends in Wayland, where they made their home for over 30 years. Surrounded by a core family of three men, she was always willing to suit up, participate and compete no matter what the activity. Joan was also an avid bridge player, who for many years enjoyed a weekly game with her group of close-knit friends in both New England and Florida. Joan also worked for many years in Al’s optometric office, and later enjoyed several years as a teller at the Auburndale Cooperative Bank in Wayland. She was a welcoming presence to many regular customers. Joan also had a close network of friends in the Sunapee and New London, New Hampshire area, where she and Al had a second home.
Joan and Al have resided at Mariner Sands in Stuart, FL for close to forty years. Joan was an enthusiastic and energetic member of the community, playing on tennis, bridge, golf and croquet teams. She was a founding member of the Mariner Sands Bell Choir, and despite her petite stature, enjoyed playing the largest bell in the group. She also volunteered for many years at Jesus House of Hope.
Joan will be remembered for her cheerful manner, exuberant energy, and love of her family and friends. Her thoughtfulness, competitive spirit and fun-loving attitude enriched all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Al; sons Gary and wife Kit of La Canada, CA; Jeffrey and wife Bronwyn of Concord, MA; grandchildren Michelle and her husband Lee Lawrence; Ryan and his wife Libby Lamont; and Evan Lamont and his wife Audrey Haque. Joan is also survived by her recently born first great-grandchild, Susanna Lawrence.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held in the Mariner Sands Chapel on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mariner Sands Chapel or a charity of choice.
