Salwasser, James Edwin of Jensen Beach FL, formerly of Midland MI, passed away on May 17, 2025, at Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' Nursing Home in Port St. Lucie, FL. He was 84 years old. Jim was born April 10, 1941, in Saginaw, MI, to August Salwasser and Helen Meier. James graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill in 1959. He also attended college at Ferris State University. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a First Lieutenant earning a Medal of Honor.
At home, he was the owner and President of Community Coatings, Inc., as a painting contractor for commercial jobs in the tri-cities area. Jim enjoyed boating, golfing, snow skiing, woodworking, and riding his bike. He was a member of Bay City Yacht Club and also ABC - Associated Builders & Contractors in Michigan, serving on both as a Board Member. A favorite accomplishment was the Great Loop trip from 1998 to 2000 on his boat, 19th Hold, from Michigan to Florida and back. In Jensen Beach, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving family members are: Sister, Connie Griffin (Bob Coates); long-time partner, Vicky Sowden; Step son-in-law, Wayne Lipinski (Angie Jimkoski); two daughters; Step-daughter, Sherry Forbear, two sons. He shared many holidays and grins with Gary Sowden (Caroline Longshore) and Michelle Sowden (Ethan Repsher), Aidin and Foster. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Salwasser (Sandy), and his step-daughter, Lori Lipinski.
James's cremation has taken place. Interment will be in South Florida National Cemetery-Lake Worth FL with Army Military Honors. Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
