James 'Jim' Edward Holland was a devoted husband, loving stepfather, and proud grandfather. On October 12, 2025, Jim passed away peacefully, his family faithfully by his side, guiding him with love through his final journey in hospice care.
Born in Auburn, New York, and raised in Bay Village, Ohio, Jim was an exceptional basketball player in high school and college whose talent and dedication carried him far. He began his collegiate basketball career at Louisiana State University (LSU) before deciding to pursue law and transferring to The Ohio State University, where he continued to excel academically. His accomplishments on the court were later honored when he was inducted into the Bay Village Basketball Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding athletic contributions in his hometown.
Jim built a distinguished career as an attorney, admired for his sharp intellect, unwavering integrity, and sense of fairness. Beyond his professional life, he was a passionate golfer, an avid traveler, and someone who deeply enjoyed life's simple pleasures — especially a classic Coca-Cola. In the later years of his life, Jim found profound joy in the love of his wife, Madeline Holland, her four children, and their beloved granddaughter. He was so proud and grateful to have gained his 'bonus family,' cherishing every moment shared together.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Holland and Edith Quibly Holland. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Holland, his four stepchildren, his cherished granddaughter, and his brother, Phil Holland, of Castro Valley, California. He also leaves behind many friends who will forever carry his
memory in their hearts.
