James W. Carr, 81, of Stuart, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2023. Jim was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 1, 1942, the son of the late James R. Carr and Anna (Melody) Carr. He was a longtime Steelers fan. Jim’s passion was singing in church and regional choirs, as well as hiking in local parks and forests. Jim retired from Verizon after 35 years and spent 10 years volunteering with Global Links in Pittsburgh. Jim took up walking after retirement and completed 10 half marathons in Nashville, Virginia Beach, Miami, and various other locations. Jim left the Pittsburgh winter weather and relocated to Stuart, Florida, six years ago. He loved walking to the beach and taking in the daily sunshine.

Jim was a dedicated family man and friend. He is survived by his wife, Rita (Pistella) Carr, daughter Melanie Carr, brother William Carr (Mary Jane), sister Maureen Carr, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. He was predeceased in death by his first wife, Grace Ann (Klauss) Carr, son Matthew Carr, and brother John Carr (survived by Susan Collins).

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 2 pm until 4 pm with the evening prayer at 3 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 961 S. Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1200 10th Street, Stuart, Fl.  

For family and friends in Pittsburgh, a service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in loving memory of James may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice treasurehealth.org
