James Crennan Bass

James Crennan Bass, known affectionately to many as Jim, passed away on April 9, 2026, surrounded by family and the quiet comfort of a hospice setting. Born on November 22, 1952, in the humble surroundings of Riverhead, New York, Jim’s journey was one of remarkable ascent — a testament to determination and steadfast simplicity.

Jim’s story is that of a simple man who emerged from a family of little means to achieve great success. Holding a bachelor’s degree and a CPA, he crafted an illustrious career as the Chief Financial Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, a position he held with distinction for two decades before retiring in 2017. His professional path was as varied as it was distinguished, taking him across the globe—from the bustling streets of New York City to the vibrant cultures of Thailand, Portugal, Japan, South America and Northern California and finally settling in Florida. Yet, it was in the welcoming embrace of Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, Florida, a community he joined in 2000, where he ultimately made his permanent home in the final 7 years of his life.

Jim was a man of few complexities—his pleasures were grounded in simple joys. An avid golfer, tennis player, and swimmer, he found solace in the rhythm of these pursuits and in the serene beauty of the beach, places that offered him peace and a space for reflection. Throughout his life, he maintained a character as steady as the waves—unassuming, yet quietly impactful.

He is survived by the enduring love of his wife, Teresa Amato Bass of Stuart, Florida, to whom he was married for 44 years. Their partnership was a cornerstone of Jim’s life, offering warmth and unwavering companionship. The family legacy continues through his sons James and Stephen, both residing in Colorado with their wives Danielle and Christian, respectively, and through the lively footsteps of his grandchildren: Grayson, Ryan, Taylor, and Landon. Jim also leaves behind his brother Thomas and sister-in-law Melanie Bass, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who each carry a piece of his spirit with them.

A Mass to honor Jim’s life will be held at Mariner Sands Chapel, 6500 S.E. Mariner Sands Drive, Stuart, FL, on April 18, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Father Keane and Father Hynes officiating, and Pastor Gary Carr as Pastor. This gathering will be a celebration of a man who, though simple in his ways, was grand in the legacy he leaves—a humble giant whose life touched many.

In remembering James Crennan Bass, we evoke the image of a life well-lived, marked not by ostentation but by quiet dignity, profound dedication, and the kind of success that can only come from unwavering resolve and a heart grounded in love. His journey from Riverhead to the world was a trail blazed with humility and grace, echoing in the hearts of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in loving memory of Jim can be made to Mariner Sands Chapel, 6500 SE Congressional Way, Stuart, FL  34997.  772-288-5194
