Glen A. Dell

Glen A. Dell of Chatham, MA, and Stuart, FL, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at home and surrounded by family. He was 90 years old. A true gentleman, Glen will be remembered for his generosity, devotion to family and faith, unwavering positive attitude, and his well-loved career in international finance and management.

Born in 1935 to Frieda Theurer and Willoughby Dell in Cadillac, MI, Glen was a proud graduate of Amherst College. In 1958, while serving in the Army Reserves, Glen married his college sweetheart, Barbara Martin, and soon had two children. Glen’s career took the young family to Rio de Janeiro in 1966, where he served as Treasurer of GE/South America. Upon returning to the States, Glen became Treasurer of GE and was instrumental in creating GE Credit Corporation. He went on to join the International Paper Company and make his mark there as Treasurer and Vice President. He also enjoyed his time as CFO of JWT Group, President of Investcorp, and Chairman of many corporate boards.

Though Glen loved his career, he was also devoted to family and faith. By 1969, his family had settled in Riverside and Old Greenwich, CT. He was an active and supportive member of the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich, serving as the treasurer, an elder, and a choir member for many years. In retirement, he also devoted much of his time to serving Stuart Congregational Church in similar roles.

After 46 years of marriage, his wife Barbara passed away, and Glen was fortunate enough to start a wonderful new chapter with Susan Fordyce in 2005. Together with Sue’s four children and 8 grandchildren, his generosity and love for family expanded as the two made it a point to blend both families and provide special opportunities for connection through travels and summers in Chatham.

Glen was a man of many hobbies and interests, and loved to share these with his expanded family, which included his godson, Michael. Though he enjoyed boating, tennis, skiing, international travel, college football, and his model trains, Glen’s favorite pastime was golfing. He traveled the world playing the sport, but most enjoyed being at one of his three clubs: Eastward Ho! in Chatham, MacArthur in Hobe Sound, FLA, and Yacht and Country Club in Stuart. He was also a longtime member of Chatham Beach and Tennis Club.

In addition to his first wife, Glen was predeceased by his son, Roger Martin Dell. He leaves behind his wife Sue, daughter Kerry (and Bill) Stratton of Trumbull, CT, daughter-in-law Betsy Dell of San Antonio, TX; stepchildren Kerry (and John) Roberts of North Attleboro, MA, Steve Fordyce of Madison, CT, Christine Fordyce of Newton, MA, and Brook Fordyce of Jensen Beach, FLA; and a godson, Michael (and Patty) Chambers of Greenwich, CT. Completing Glen’s family are grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Steve (and Patrice), Randy, Jamie (and Ali) Stratton; Chelsea (and James) Tautkus, Jack Dell, Kay (Aaron) Hain, Jordan (and Matt) Miller, Sydney Roberts, Blake, Parker, Kylie, Kayla, Jillian, and Maddie Fordyce. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Nancy Phelps, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his caregiver, Denise Bryant.

A celebration of Glen’s life will be held on September 20, 2:30 pm, at the First Congregational Church of Chatham, 650 Main Street, Chatham, MA 02633.
