Frederick L. Cone

Frederick (Fred) L. Cone, age 82, of Hobe Sound, FL passed away July 25, 2026 after a short illness. He was surrounded by his brother John and sister-in-law Mary Cone, his sons Christopher Cone and Daniel Cone. His wife of 59 years, Cynthia (Cindy) was there as well.

His immediate surviving family includes his wife Cynthia (Shade) Cone; his sons Christopher L. Cone, Daniel C. Cone and Lorin C. Cone (Giselle); and his grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Olivia Cone.

Fred was born in Sydney, Australia and travelled with his surgeon father Luther and his wife, Pamela, eventually settling in Shamokin, PA. Fred was a graduate of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA majoring in biology and chemistry. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon and served as house manager there. He was a member of the Biemic Society, Student Chistian Association and the college yearbook The Lanthorn staff. After graduation, he spent a year at The University of Michigan Medical Center in the Nuclear Medicine Department working with radioactive isotopes. He joined the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in Shrewsbury, MA where he organized, developed and supervised a radio-immunoassay laboratory for the study of drug levels in human and animal studies. His work there was included in various publications, as well as, throughout his career.

Fred was recruited by Johnson and Johnson in 1978 where he spent his career of over thirty as a Clinical Research Manager, mainly focused on OB/GYN medical affairs. His responsibilities included planning, budgeting, monitoring and seeing to accurate completion of his projects. Many of these projects required world wide travel. His family spent thirty years in Plainfield, NJ. While there, Fred was an active member of Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon, Session and Trustee member. He was an active member of the Van Wick Brooks Historical District, hosting at his home house tours and dinner celebrations for the District.

Retirement found Fred and Cindy moving to Hobe Sound, FL in 2007, where he lived until his death. While in Hobe Sound, he was very active in his church. At Hobe Sound Community Presbyterian, he was a member of Session and Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. He planned and implemented the completion of the Memorial Garden for the church. His other passion was music and he fell in love with the music and spirit of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. He will be remembered for his wonderful “Coffee Hours” and as an active office volunteer. At home he had an affinity for growing orchids and roses. Local neighbors knew they could depend on him for help in their times of need. Fred spent many wonderful volunteer hours, both as a docent and gift shop volunteer, at The Flager and Norton Museums in Palm Beach.

A special thank you to all the third floor nurses at the Jupiter Medical Center and the doctors and staff at Trustbridge Hospice in Jupiter for their care and compassion. 

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Fred's life at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart FL, on Saturday, August 15th, at 1:00pm. He will be interred in the family plot, joining Robin(Bauer) Cone and David Bauer at rest in Plainfield, NJ.
