David James Humenik

David James Humenik, 84, of Stuart Florida passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 surrounded by love and prayers after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He faced his battle with dignity and grace.

David was born on March 15, 1942 in McKeesport, PA to his parents Joseph and Mary Catherine (Klems) Humenik. He was the youngest of four with brothers William and Joseph and sister, Rose Malesic, remaining close until each proceeded him in death.

Originally in high school, David was on a career track to work in an office in an administrative capacity; however, his coach discovered his natural ability for football. This redirected his trajectory to pursuing college and playing football. Ultimately, David selected University of Notre Dame, which he remained passionate about until his death. David was a member of the Monogram Club and was drafted to two NFL teams. Instead of pursuing a football career, he opted for a business career.

David was a man with a huge heart and a great love of life. He loved his special place in Florida where he and his wife, Janet, spent many wonderful moments. David loved to listen to music, especially Motown, singing along with a beautiful voice. He loved to dance, enjoyed fishing and golfing and looked forward to dining out or entertaining in.

David was known for his keen sense of quiet humor and sparkle. He was always the center of any gathering. He had a passion for college football; there was rarely a Saturday during the season that numerous friends and family weren’t in attendance enjoying football, especially Notre Dame, food and fun. During these times, Dave was in his glory!

David is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Janet; his daughter Susan (Gary) Schmidt; his step-daughter, Rachael (Aryan) Natarajan; his grandchildren, Ryan (Britta) Schmidt, Kersten (John) Magee; his step-grandchildren, Sterling, Eleanor and James Natarajan; his great-grandchildren, Cannon and Davis; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Fodor; and his sisters-in-law, Jane Butke and Karen Fodor. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

David was truly one of a kind, while he will be greatly missed, he fought a long and difficult fight. May he rest now knowing how much he was loved.

A Funeral Mass will be held for David at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 at 10:00am in Stuart, FL (1200 SE 10th St, Stuart, FL 34996).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the YMCA of the Treasure Coast in honor of David Humenik, a treasured member of the Y community.
