Dale Oscar Jarl Wick
April 15th , 1937 to April 13th, 2024

Dale Wick passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, at the age of 86 in Palm City, Florida. He was born April 15th, 1937, in Duluth, Minnesota to Clarence and Helen Wick. Dale and his younger brother Kent, grew up in the Cascade Hotel, where his mother and father were the owner operators. Dale attended Duluth Central High School where he was the class President and very active in school functions. Dale looked forward to his class reunion on an annual basis.

Dale attended The University of Minnesota Duluth where he received a bachelor’s degree with a dual major in mathematics and physics.

After graduating, Dale moved to California with his first wife Kay in 1959 where he took a job in the aerospace industry. After a couple of years he moved to England, then back to California and then to Minnesota. Dale and Kay had three children, Jeff, Cindy and Kathy. Dale built (on the weekends) a 4-bedroom lake home in Maple Grove MN where they lived on Cedar Island Lake.

Dale began his Minnesota career at Honeywell, where his team designed defense systems, advanced artillery, and smart weapons during his tenure. Honeywell defense later spun off into Alliant Techsystems (ATK) where his team was one of the first to integrate Lithium Battery technology.

Dale married Sandra Joens in 1974, they worked at Honeywell and ATK together and had 2 children, Collin and Andrea and lived in Fridley MN.

Dale and Sandra built a beautiful new home in Palm City, Fl. in 2004 on a golf course. They transitioned from city life to northern MN, where they updated the 1935 hunting cabin to a modern lake home. Dale did much of this work himself over the years. Up until last week, at 86, he continued his home projects, yard work and constant puttering around the house and cabin. He never met a washing machine, refrigerator or 25-year-old printer he couldn’t fix!

Dale had a life-long interest in astronomy and enjoyed watching space launches from his lanai in Florida. He also saw three total solar eclipses in his life, the last one that was just five days before he passed.

Dale started playing golf in his middle years. It was a passion which he maintained for the rest of his life. He golfed the day before he passed and made many friends both in Florida and Minnesota with a like passion.

Dale traveled the world, especially in the last 20 years to places like Nepal, Ireland, Spain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Moscow, Ball Club, New Zealand, Australia, Poolesville, Ruston, Greece, Sweden, and Israel. He was a long- time member of Toastmasters International. Dale loved duck hunting with his father, friends, and sons in northern Minnesota. He was also a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kent, and his former wife. He is survived by his wife Sandra, and children Jeff (Ivania), Cindy (John Larsen), Kathy (Tom Tadych), Collin (DeEtte) and Andrea (Bill Bush). Dale also cherished his grandchildren, all boys: Justin, Brandon, Conner, Michael, Matthew, Thomas, Lucas, Ashton, Oscar, Otto, and Aiden. Dale also leaves behind seven great grandchildren.
