Clifford James Harvison

Clifford James Harvison, beloved husband, father, and respected trucking industry leader, passed away peacefully at his home in Stuart, Florida, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on April 4, 1939, Clifford led a life of dedication and service, leaving an indelible mark on those he met.

A graduate of Duquesne University in 1961 where he played tennis, Clifford's journey of service began when he joined the U.S. Army's Transportation Corps as an officer shortly thereafter. He was stationed in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis. His commitment to duty led him to the Central Intelligence Agency at its headquarters in McLean, Virginia where he served on the German Desk.

In 1965, Clifford embarked on a decades-long career with the trade association National Tank Truck Carriers in Washington D.C, where he served as President for over 30 years before retiring in 2005. His tenure at NTTC was marked by his   dedication to making the industry safe and competitive. He was respected as an oral and written communicator who testified before the United States Congress many times.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Clifford had many interests. An avid golfer, he cherished his time at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland and Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, Florida, where he forged lasting friendships. A devoted Baltimore Orioles baseball fan, he found delight in the sport's nuances and intricacies. He also was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.

Following the passing of his beloved daughter, Jennifer, in 2013, Clifford remained a pillar of strength for his family. He is survived by his loving wife Sandy, his son John, his brother Carl, and his family. His legacy of integrity, compassion, and service will be forever remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers and as he wanted, the family requests donations be made to Tunnels and Towers, t2t.org in Clifford's memory.

A Celebration of Clifford’s life will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00 am at Mariner Sands Chapel, 6500 SE Congressional Way, Stuart, FL 34997, where friends and family will gather to honor his remarkable journey.
