Claude P. Lemieux, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, teammate, and friend, passed away on May 28, 2026, at the age of 60.
Born in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada, Claude rose from humble beginnings to become one of hockey’s most accomplished and recognizable competitors. Over a remarkable 21-season National Hockey League career, he earned four Stanley Cup championships with the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, and Colorado Avalanche. Known for his passion, determination, and ability to rise to the occasion in the game’s biggest moments, Claude also received the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player during the 1995 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While hockey fans around the world admired his fierce competitive spirit, those closest to him knew another side of Claude. He was a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife, Deborah, and cherished his children and grandchildren. Away from the rink, he was known for his generosity, sense of humor, loyalty, and the pride he took in supporting those he loved.
Following his playing career, Claude remained dedicated to the sport as a player agent and mentor, helping guide the next generation of athletes. His influence extended far beyond the ice, touching teammates, clients, friends, and countless fans throughout North America and beyond.
In one final act of generosity, Claude’s family chose to donate his brain to research dedicated to understanding the long-term effects of repetitive head injuries, hoping his contribution may help protect future generations of athletes and advance scientific knowledge.
Claude leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah; his children, Brendan, Claudia, Michael, and Christopher; his grandchildren; extended family; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He will be remembered not only as a champion hockey player but as a man whose passion, resilience, and love for family left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, former teammates, fans, and members of the hockey community who have shared their condolences, prayers, and memories during this difficult time.
Claude’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
