Obituary for Barbara Porto Davino (1936-2025)
Barbara Porto Davino, an active resident of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 89. She was the devoted wife of the late Carl F. Davino, originally from Waterbury, Connecticut, with whom she built a life filled with love, adventure, and shared enterprise.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on May 7, 1936, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Maurice and Madeline Gooley Porto. She attended Nathan Hale School, graduating with the Class of 1950, and went on to graduate from Wilbur Cross High School with the Class of 1954.
Barbara began her professional journey in banking before joining the Southern New England Telephone Co. (SNET). Her life took a new and exciting turn when she and Carl moved to Hobe Sound. Together, they not only built a beautiful home but also established a successful local business, becoming integral members of the community.
Barbara and Carl were pillars of the Hobe Sound community, actively involved in numerous organizations. They were dedicated members of St. Christopher Parish of Hobe Sound, the Hobe Sound Chamber of Commerce, Associated Locksmiths of America, the Safe and Vault Technicians Association, and the Florida Self Storage Association. Beyond their professional and civic commitments, they shared a passion for travel, eagerly participated in local business events, and treasured visits with family and friends across the country.
Barbara will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Antoinette “Toni” Davino of Stuart, FL; her brothers-in-law, Ralph F. Davino Jr. of Hobe Sound and Michael Davino of Waterbury, CT; and many nieces and nephews along with their families, whom she adored.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Madeline Porto Buckholz of New Haven, CT and her brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Dorothy Porto of New Haven, CT, as well as her brother-in-law, Frederick Davino of Naugatuck, CT.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Christopher Catholic Church, located at 12001 SE Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound, FL 33455.
Barbara will later be reunited with her adored husband, Carl, and they will forever rest together in peace at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33467 (Section A-21, Row B, Site 64).
Barbara’s family extends their deepest gratitude for the compassionate care and unwavering support provided by the staff of Hospice and the Discovery Village at Stuart. Their kindness during this time will never be forgotten.
