Antoinette Anna Knittel, 86, passed away Sunday, December 7th at the Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart, Florida.
Antoinette was born at home in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, to Anthony and Amelia (Mazza) Guzzi. She was raised and lived in Atlantic Highlands for over 70 years where she also met and married the love of her life, Joseph Walter Knittel. They were married on June 6, 1959 and raised four children together.
After graduating from Atlantic Highlands High School, Antoinette was employed as a Dental Assistant until she became a stay-at-home Mom. She was the ultimate volunteer and loved being involved in community activities. She was a volunteer at the St. Agnes Thrift Shop in Atlantic Highlands for over 30 years. Antoinette was very involved with the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society where she enjoyed giving tours and setting up events. She loved a parade and traveled far and wide to attend one. Her favorite was the Rose Bowl in California. And, in her spare time, Antoinette was also a very talented seamstress.
Antoinette and Walter were communicants of St. Agnes/OLPH church and were very involved in the church activities. They were fortunate to travel the world. After retirement, they bought a home in Jensen Beach, Florida, where they made many friends and made many great memories.
In addition to her parents, Antoinette was predeceased in 2016 by her beloved husband, Walter; her brothers, Samuel and Peter and her sister, Theresa.
She leaves behind her daughter, Katherine Puck and her husband Bill of Eatontown, NJ; her sons, Joseph Kay of West Hollywood, CA, and David Knittel of Fort Pierce, FL; and, her daughter, Janette Knittel and her husband, John Finneson of Sequim, Washington. She is also survived by her grandchildren Ryan and Leigh Clapp and Emma Thompson of New Jersey; as well as, three great-grandchildren. And, after Walter passed away, Antoinette adopted her cat, Loki, who has been her faithful companion for almost 10 years.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Antoinette’s life will be held this Spring, in New Jersey.
